What Is Estate Administration?

More than paperwork — it's honoring someone's final wishes.

Estate and trust administration is the process of identifying, valuing, managing, and ultimately distributing a person's assets after they pass away. Even when a thorough estate plan is in place, the administration process requires careful attention to detail — creditors must be notified, taxes settled, and assets properly transferred to their new rightful owners.

Without experienced legal guidance, this process can become overwhelming for families already navigating grief. Lauren's role is to lift that burden and make sure everything is handled correctly, completely, and with compassion.

The right person for the job depends on how the estate was planned

Named in a Will

Executor

When a person passes with a valid will, the individual named as executor is responsible for carrying out its instructions and administering the estate.

No Will (Intestate)

Administrator

When someone passes without a will, the California court appoints an administrator to manage the estate according to state intestacy law.

Trust-Based Estate

Trustee

When assets pass through a living trust, the named trustee takes responsibility for administering the trust according to its terms — often avoiding probate entirely.

A clear, thorough process from start to finish

01

Identifying & Securing Estate Assets

Every asset in the estate must be located, identified, secured, and properly valued. Lauren guides this process carefully so nothing is overlooked — and so all assets ultimately reach their rightful beneficiaries through a clean legal transfer.

02

Notifying & Paying Creditors

There is a specific legal process for notifying both known and potential creditors of a death. Outstanding debts are paid from estate assets in the correct order, and only then are the remaining assets distributed to heirs and beneficiaries.

03

Settling Taxes

Estate taxes, gift taxes, and any unpaid back taxes must be addressed before assets can be distributed. Tax law in this area is complex, but Lauren ensures all obligations are handled accurately and in compliance with California and federal requirements.

04

Reviewing & Administering Trust Documents

When a trust is part of the estate, following its terms precisely is critical. Lauren reviews trust language carefully, interprets its provisions, and where appropriate, establishes sub-trusts to ensure assets are distributed correctly and in accordance with the decedent's wishes.

05

Probate Court Filings

Some estates require court supervision through the California probate process. Lauren handles all necessary filings, deadlines, and court appearances — keeping the process moving efficiently so families aren't left waiting.

Newly Named as Trustee?

You don't have to figure this out alone.

Being named a trustee is an honor — but it also comes with real legal responsibilities that many people don't fully understand until they're in the role. Lauren takes the time to walk trustees through their duties clearly and thoroughly, so they can fulfill their obligations with confidence and without fear of misstep.

You were chosen because someone trusted you. Lauren helps make sure that trust is well-placed.
